Dear President, dear Director General,

As you know, BUSINESSEUROPE decided last year to organise an event to close this year celebrating its 50th anniversary in Paris on 4 December 2008. 

Determined to contribute to finding solutions to unprecedented economic difficulties, we have decided to turn this event into a forward-looking debate on how to restore confidence in the global economic system.

This public debate will follow on from a G8 business summit planned in the morning of 4 December and precede a meeting of BUSINESSEUROPE’s Council of Presidents on 5 December 2008.

It is essential that each of our 40 national member federations is represented at the highest level for this public debate to demonstrate the commitment of business to make its voice heard as new rules are being shaped to govern the world market economy.

The conference will also involve the leaders of the business community in the US, Russia and Asia as well as key politicians from the EU and world level. It will be followed by a dinner.

We want to discuss how business and key international organisations can work together to restore confidence in the global economic system following the financial crisis. The debate will be moderated by Mr Paul Taylor from Reuters. A draft programme is attached.
