Dear President, dear Director General, As you know, BUSINESSEUROPE decided last year to organise an event to close this year celebrating its 50th anniversary in Paris on 4 December 2008. Determined to contribute to finding solutions to unprecedented economic difficulties, we have decided to turn this event into a forward-looking debate on how to restore confidence in the global economic system. This public debate will follow on from a G8 business summit planned in the morning of 4 December and precede a meeting of BUSINESSEUROPE’s Council of Presidents on 5 December 2008. It is essential that each of our 40 national member federations is represented at the highest level for this public debate to demonstrate the commitment of business to make its voice heard as new rules are being shaped to govern the world market economy. The conference will also involve the leaders of the business community in the US, Russia and Asia as well as key politicians from the EU and world level. It will be followed by a dinner. We want to discuss how business and key international organisations can work together to restore confidence in the global economic system following the financial crisis. The debate will be moderated by Mr Paul Taylor from Reuters. A draft programme is attached. I very much hope that you will be able to join us on that occasion. Yours sincerely, Philippe de Buck Director General BUSINESSEUROPE (The Confederation of European Business) avenue de Cortenbergh 168 1000 Brussels BELGIUM Phone: ++ 32 (0) 2 237 65 61 Fax: ++ 32 (0) 2 237 65 08 E-Mail: ph.debuck@businesseurope.eu (mailto:ph.debuck@businesseurope.eu)

UNICE - organizatia reprezentativa a mediului de afaceri european se asteapta ca Presedintia finlandeza sa asigure un program strict al activitatii sale, iar deciziile necesare sa fie luate la momentul potrivit pentru a respecta termenele impuse.
10 Ianuarie 2005 The Lisbon Strategy is overloaded with objectives. In order to be effective it must refocus on the most pressing shortcomings in Europe on which all other objectives depend: creating growth and jobs. The Lisbon Strategy coordination Group should therefore come up with a list of Parliamentary legislative dossiers whose outcome is of vital importance for achieving the Lisbon objectives.
15 december 2004UNICE agrees, in principle, with most of the 14 key policy recommendations in the Kok Report. But resulting policy decisions will only be effective if there is agreement on the overall raison d’être of the Lisbon Strategy: to focus on competitiveness in order to obtain more growth and jobs, which is vital to live up to Europe’s social and environmental ambitions. Social cohesion and environmental protection are not substantial growth drivers in their own right.
